I think they better get something fast. Seems like too many people are getting frustrated about this. I was told by someone else it was a normal thing for my car and I said "If this is normal it's going to drive me nuts!". So I sympathize with the R/T owners. Maybe if someone calls a customer service number at Chrysler they can find out if they're working on it. As far as you guys go,You're in the dark waiting and wondering. I don't care for that.

Chrysler states that they are working on the software fix,..... at lest thats what they have told me. I like my car very much, so I'm going to keep waiting for as long as it takes Chrysler to get the upgrade out.

I have had mine since June 9th with about 15k and 7 trips to the dealer.  They have told me it is normal.  Well this thing is getting much worse.  It started at about 15-20mph with a clunking noise.  This thing has slammed at 40mph now.  It is getting hard enough to chirp tires with the AWD R/T.  Between this and the lifter noises I am starting to regret switching to domestics.
The response for the valvetrain noise was "you should hear the Hemi's"  Thanks guys but I DON'T have a Hemi.  It would be SWEET if they did though

That great they're working on it. Sooner the better they get it right.

Ya normal. That's a joke. What car shifts like that ever? Unless you have a transmission that needs to be repaired. Mine acted like a car I drove years ago when the bands were slipping. It's a shame I have to hear a person say regret switching to a domestic. A big shame a person living in a America (I assume you're American) feels that foreign vehicles made by foreign car makers are better. What the heck is going on.

So I take my car to the dealership today to for my regularly scheduled oil change, and to complain about the hard down shifting/hesitation up to 30 mph for the third time in which I actually asked them to look into when the software upgrade might be coming out.  When I went to go pick up the car they tell me that they contacted Dodge/Chrysler and claim that there is no scheduled upgrade to be released for the Avenger.  Not only that they tell me there is nothing they can do for what I claim is happening to the car since the computer isn't picking anything up.(they of course don't feel what I do).

I really enjoy this car except for this rather large issue.  The car is so bad I'm embarrased to drive with anyone else in the car.

Can anyone suggest a contact from Dodge/Chrysler that I could tap into.  I'm really frustrated with the dealership at this point.

Thanks in advance.

Which model do you have? I have the SE with 4 cyl. and they flashed mine. Someone on one of these forums said it's being worked on for other models. I know a little bit how you feel. It was embarassing when my transmission hesitated etc.I had someone say" Oh that's normal" No way! I hope your's finds a fix soon. If I find anything I'll post it here.

Do you have the 4 or the 6 cyl. ?  I believe there is just an update for 4's. Yes it's annoying. I hope all goes well. You should n't have to go through so much trouble, That's what gets me. If it's a 4, Make sure they know that. This guy at the dealership(parts) said I had a 5 speed and it was a 6 cyl. I said no I have a 4 cyl. He says they're all 6's!So if they go to look up any kind of flash and they think it a six forget it!

Yeah I have the 6 cyl R/T.

The other thing is they put on the slip after you pick up the car that they could recreate the problem and make it sound like it's running fine.  I'm no mehcanic by any means, but it doesn't take an expert mechanic to realize that the car is not running fine and that there is a problem.

Ahhhh that feels better.

In any event, I emailed Chrysler last night with a complete detail of my issue.  It will be interesting to see what they have to say...if anything.

They better do something quick. How in the hell can they push these cars out like that? From what I gather it seems alot of automakers are getting shoddy. What the heck is going on? I know someone who swears by Toyota and bought a new one and the computer already blew. Then there are the bad Camery's that just quit! My sister's Kia's radiator busted and she's only had it 2 months.

I am getting quite frustrated too with the whole transmission problem.  I bought my 08 R/T AWD in November and have been back to the dealer twice but Dodge isn't giving them any idea about when the new software will be completed.  I'm glad I found this site since I've been thinking this is a new problem (makes me realyyyyy upset now to know that all of you have been dealing with this for quite some time). The dealer has ordered a new torque converter for me and tell me it probably won't be in for about 2 weeks then in the same breath basically tell me this isnt the problem but Dodge said to go ahead and install it.  WHAT THE HECK????

I don't get where in the heck the quality control people are at. Maybe it's angry workers they mess up on purpose,I worked with people like that. It's embarrassing when you're driving a new car and you have people witnessing the transmission etc. going wacky.
