This article applies to the Dodge Ram (2009-present).

Dodge has done a great job giving the consumer many different options in trucks. You can decide to purchase a Crew Cab truck and think that the difficult part of getting a truck is out of the way, but you would be wrong to think that. You now have to figure out which trim you want to purchase. Okay, so that should be easy; maybe two or three to choose from, right? Wrong. There are currently eleven trim options for the 1500 Dodge Ram.

For the purpose of this article, we have narrowed it down to one of the lesser expensive and one of the more expensive options. Why? Because your pocketbook will say to be realistic with the monthly payment, but your heart is going to tell your pocketbook to take a hike, and you're going to start clicking the option buttons while ordering that truck. You need to know what you're getting yourself into, and this article will help you narrow down all of the options.

The Dodge Ram 1500 Express and Dodge Ram 1500 Sport are compared below. You're going to learn the primary differences and hopefully walk away from this article with a great understanding of these two trims.

Visual Breakdown (Exterior)

First and foremost, you have to like what your truck looks like when you walk up to it. The differences between the Express and Sport can be tough to spot, but they are certainly there. A few of the easier-to-spot items between the two trucks? The factory rims, the front grilles, the hoods, the headlights, body matched paint on the side mirrors (Sport trim), and door handles upgraded on the Sport trim.

Visual Breakdown (Interior)

The interior differences between the Ram Express and Ram Sport are a touch more noticeable. One of the first things is cloth interior on the Express versus leather interior on the Sport. Another big item is the steering column mounted gear lever on the Express versus the knock selector on the Sport. There's a missing dash panel above the passenger glove box on the Express and a huge color touch screen set up on the Sport edition; lots of buttons and touch screens on the Sport edition, lots of knobs on the Express.

Price

There are clearly sizable differences between the Dodge Ram Express and Dodge Ram Sport trim packages. The biggest difference is the price. But now that you have had the opportunity to compare the two trucks, you can see why there would be a price difference. The Dodge website has the Express 1500 Crew Cab listed at a starting MSRP of $26,940, and the Sport 1500 Crew Cab is listed at $35,705. On the monthly payment scale, that puts the Sport at roughly $108 more expensive, which is quite a bit when you really think about it.

So the question becomes this. What's more important to you: Luxury and fancy options or simply getting around in a great-looking truck? The Express isn't the most basic Dodge Ram available, but it's close. Likewise, the Sport isn't the most expensive Dodge Ram, but it's close. The decision is yours.
