2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Review: Fuel Economy, Stereo System, and Performance

The 2010 Dodge Ram doesn't get any vast changes, but instead a handful of additions to improve on an already great truck.  The 2009 Dodge Ram introduced a new generation of the half ton Dodge pickup, and the muscular styling and 390 horsepower Hemi made it an instant hit.

The 2009 Ram was the first in the segment to offer coil spring suspension and the Hemi made it among the most powerful trucks in its class.  The 2010 Ram offers all of the same engine, transmission, and suspension options as the prior year, but in conjunction with Chryslers MDS, a new interactive decal fuel shut off will improve the economy across the model.  In models equipped with the 3.7L V6, a fuel saver light indicates when you are driving in the most fuel efficient rpm and speed range.  The Gross Combined Weight Rating of the 2010 Dodge Ram has been increased to 15,500 lbs. (having previously been 14,000 lbs) on Quad Cab models with the 5.7L Hemi and 3.92 gears.

Inside of the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500, there is an optional 506 watt surround sound stereo system for audiophiles, along with I-pod control with a glove box connection.  A tire pressure monitoring system is another added feature, and to make the Ram a little more capable there is an integrated trailer brake controller.  This option was offered first by Ford on the 2009 F150, and is a great addition for those who do any towing.

There were rumors that 2010 "mule" Dodge Rams were equipped with 400+ horsepower variants of the 5.7L Hemi but it appears that for now they will remain at 390hp and 407 lb-ft of torque but the Ram is still the most aerodynamic and one of the most powerful trucks in its class.

The Ram's strength and toughness are never in question. Does the addition of an improved sound system, I-Pod connectivity, electronic fuel and tire monitor, and trailer brake control make it the perfect truck? At the very least, is it pushing the balance of comfort and ability in the right direction? Anything missing?
